Congress’s recently passed Continuing Resolution is blocking the District of Columbia from spending $1.1 billion of its own locally raised funds through June 30. That includes $214 million budgeted for Metro, a move that could force regionwide WMATA service cuts—affecting all of us who depend on transit in the DMV.

Why FABB Cares

Transit and biking go hand-in-hand. Metro is a key link in the multimodal network we all rely on. If Metro is forced to cut service, more people will be forced into cars—making our streets less safe, less sustainable, and more congested for everyone.

This crisis doesn’t just threaten Metro. It would also force DC to slash essential services like schools, public safety, and fire departments—hurting residents, commuters, and the entire regional economy. And here’s the kicker: it doesn’t even save the federal government a dime, since all these funds come from DC’s local taxes and fees.

What Can You Do?

Urge your Member of Congress to pass the DC Local Funds Control Act (Senate Bill 1077). This bill would restore DC’s authority to spend its own tax dollars—including the critical $214 million for Metro.

Write or call your U.S. House Representative today and ask them to bring this bill to a vote. Let them know that WMATA service cuts would hurt their constituents, and that the District deserves the right to manage its own locally raised budget just as Fairfax County does.
