  • Route 50 STARS Meeting September 28, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

    The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) welcomes you to the first virtual public information meeting webpage for the Route 50 STARS Safety and Operational Improvements Study - Chantilly. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. (in case an alternate date is needed, the meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the same time), register here. Please note: Google Chrome or Firefox is recommended for this platform.

    Find out about a STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study that in its first phase assessed potential safety and operational improvements for nearly two miles of Route 50 (Lee Jackson Memorial Highway) between Route 28 (Sully Road) and Stringfellow Road (Route 645). Based on public feedback from the first phase, the second phase is further assessing potential innovative intersection improvements, including partial median u-turns, at Lees Corner Road and Stringfellow Road. The second phase is also assessing potential safety improvements for side street intersections along the Route 50 service road.

  • I-495 NEXT Meeting September 29, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

    VDOT will hold a virtual Public Information Meeting on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, beginning at 6:30 p.m. to present the latest updates and information related to the 495 NEXT Project. The project is advancing to the design and construction phase, following more than three years of environmental study and traffic analysis, and the receipt of a “Finding of No Significant Impact” from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and National Park Service on its environmental assessment, and an approval from FHWA on its interchange justification report.

    The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will provide information on its New American Legion Bridge I-270 to I-70 Traffic Relief Plan, which includes proposed project improvements in Virginia near the George Washington Memorial Parkway and across the American Legion Bridge into Maryland. Learn more about the project, environmental review status, and process moving forward. Project information can also be found at

    Plan to join this virtual public information meeting and hear about ongoing collaboration and coordination between Virginia and Maryland project teams to improve travel and bring relief and multimodal solutions to I-495 and the Capital Beltway area. Information about transit plans and commitments will also be provided.

  • Bike Skills 101: Adult Learn to Ride October 2, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

    Class Registration

    Want to experience the joys of biking but haven't gotten around to learning? Now is your chance! This class, held on Mason’s Fairfax Campus in Parking Lot C, is for those who have not learned to ride and are ready to learn now.

    The Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling (FABB) team of certified instructors will teach you the basics as you learn at your own pace. Our goal is to help you balance and progress you into using pedals as you are ready. You must be at least 18 years old to attend the class and will be asked to sign a waiver before participating.

    Bikes and helmets will be provided. During registration, you will be asked for your height so that we can try to have a bike available that fits you; however, we cannot guarantee bike availability in your size.

    Duration: 3 hours
    Participant Age: Adults - 18 years old and older
    Equipment Provided: Bicycle and helmet rental
    Cost: $10 for GMU students, faculty, and staff; $85 for others

  • Tour of Fair Oaks/Fair Lakes Area October 3, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Pkwy, Fairfax, VA 22035, USA

    FABB and the Coalition for Smarter Growth are sponsoring this 7 mile bike tour of the Fair Oaks and Fair Lakes area to discuss future redevelopment and existing and planned walking and bike improvements. Staff from Fairfax County will join us to answer questions. Supervisor Walkinshaw will greet riders before we leave the Fairfax County Government Center. Afterwards those who want to can gather outside at nearby Fairfax Corner for refreshments (on your own).

    We will meet at the front of the Fairfax Co Government Center located at 12000 Government Center Pkwy, Fairfax, VA 22035. All riders must show proof of vaccination, wear a helmet and sign a liability waiver. When you can not socially distance, please wear a mask
