    Fairfax County's Trails, Sidewalks and Bikeways Committee is a citizen advisory committee that provides input and oversight to planning and developing a non-motorized transportation system and trails serving the needs of pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians.

  • Compton Rd Shared Use Path Mtg December 9, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm Virtual

    Project website

    This project will construct a ten-foot-wide shared-use path along northbound Compton Road (Route 658) from the Bull Run Special Events Center Access Road to just south of the I-66 bridge, and from just north of the I-66 bridge to a connection with the existing Cub Run Trail. The project also includes widening the Compton Road bridge over Cub Run to accommodate the new shared-use path. The portion of the shared-use path under the I-66 bridge is being constructed separately as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

    Preliminary Engineering - $750,000
    Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation - $450,000
    Construction - $3.3 million
    Total - $4.5 million

  • VDOT: Post Forest Drive and Random Hills Road Shared-Use Paths December 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

    Post Forest Drive from West Ox Road to Random Hills Road

    The sidewalk along the south side of Post Forest Drive will be upgraded to a ten-foot-wide shared-use path from just west of Black Ironwood Drive to Random Hills Road. 

    In order to accommodate the ten-foot-wide shared-use path, Post Forest Drive will be restriped without bicycle lanes, curb and gutter will be modified as needed, and the bus shelter on eastbound Post Forest Drive just past Black Ironwood Drive will be moved or replaced. Post Forest Drive east of Random Hills Road will be restriped to align with the new road configuration.

    Improvements at West Ox Road and Post Forest Drive include:

    • Adding crosswalks along the north and west sides of the intersection
    • Enhancing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps

    Random Hills Road from Post Forest Drive to Monument Drive

    The existing sidewalk along the east side of Random Hills Road will be upgraded to a ten-foot-wide shared-use path from Post Forest Drive to the existing shared-use path just beyond the Monument Drive overpass.

    Improvements at Post Forest Drive and Random Hills Road include:

    • Adding a crosswalk along the north side of the intersection
    • Enhancing ADA curb ramps

    Estimated Costs
    Preliminary Engineering - $1.2 million
    Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation - $3.5 million
    Construction - $4.5 million
    Total - $9.2 million

    This project is financed with federal and state funding.

    Benefits 

    This project aims to improve bicyclist and pedestrian safety, accessibility and connectivity to the I-66 bicycle/pedestrian network.

    Join the Commonwealth of Virginia, Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and Virginia Railway Express for a virtual public meeting

    FAIRFAX – The public is invited to a joint virtual meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021 with representatives from the Commonwealth Transportation Board, Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and Virginia Railway Express, to learn more about the regional collaboration required to keep travelers in Northern Virginia moving.

    Per Virginia code §33.2-214.3, these organizations shall conduct a joint public meeting annually for the purposes of presenting to the public, and receiving comments on, transportation projects proposed and conducted by each entity in Planning District 8 (Northern Virginia).

    The meeting will include an opportunity to receive public comments following agency presentations on transportation initiatives, including:                                                           

    • VDOT’s Multimodal Project Pipeline Program
    • NVTA’s updates to TransAction and the FY2022-2027 Six Year Program; the NVTA Transportation Technology Strategic Plan; and the Regional Multi-Modal Mobility Program (RM3P) in partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia
    • NVTC’s Commuter Choice program
    • DRPT’s funding opportunities, Six Year Improvement Program and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA)
    • VRE station, and storage- and maintenance-facility projects

    The meeting will be held as a virtual/online and attendees must register online. The team of VDOT, DRPT, OIPI, NVTA, NVTC and VRE representatives will make a presentation beginning at 7 p.m. highlighting their transportation programs, regional collaboration and receive public comments about Virginia’s transportation network.
