Faith communities across Fairfax County are invited to participate in Walk, Bike & Roll to Worship Week, taking place August 16–23, 2026. This annual celebration of active transportation, community, and wellness encourages congregations to welcome members and neighbors in fun, healthy, and meaningful ways.

This unique event empowers each congregation to celebrate in ways that reflect its own values and community spirit. Whether you organize a group walk or bike ride to worship, offer a blessing of the bikes, host a neighborhood prayer walk, provide refreshments for those who arrive on foot or by bicycle, or simply recognize those who travel by walking, bicycling, wheelchair, or other mobility device, your participation helps build healthier, more connected communities.

Why Participate?

Walk, Bike & Roll to Worship Week offers congregations an opportunity to:

  • Welcome members and visitors in a fun and meaningful way.
  • Encourage healthy, active transportation.
  • Build stronger connections within your congregation and surrounding neighborhood.
  • Demonstrate support for safer, more sustainable transportation throughout Fairfax County.

The event is also an excellent fit for congregational committees and ministries focused on:

  • Environmental stewardship: Active transportation reduces emissions and parking demand.
  • Health and wellness: Walking and bicycling promote physical activity and healthier lifestyles.
  • Fellowship and family-building: A fun, inclusive activity that brings people together.
  • Equity and accessibility: Support safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options for people of all ages and abilities.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) makes participation easy by providing:
