Please join FABB in celebrating National Bike Month in May. There are many ways to get involved to promote the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more people to bike for work, errands, and pleasure. We hope everyone will use the month to get out for a ride and share with the others your love of bicycling.

One of the first big events of Bike Month is the 8thannual National Bike to School Day.  Bike to School Day is part of a movement that connects and inspires communities to foster safer and more friendly routes for biking and walking to school. It is a great way to promote a broader message of safety and support for safe, active travel than inspires communities, by starting with children and the trip to school, to become safe places for everyone to walk and bike.  Whether you have school-age children or not, check with your local schools or the Fairfax County Public Schools Safe Route to Schools website to find out more about opportunities to support this wonderful event.

BTWD 2019 300x167 - Let's Celebrate National Bike Month!

Bike to Work Day, of course, is the primary Bike Month event to celebrate bicycling as a clean, fun and healthy way to get to work. The event is set, as always, for the morning of the third Friday of the month (May 17, 2019). There are more pit stops than ever around the region where participants can enjoy free food, commuter support, and pick up their free 2019 Bike to Work Day t-shirt. So, if you plan on biking to work that day, there probably is a pit stop near you. Join the fun and register for free here today.

FABB members will be out at as many of Fairfax County’s nearly 30 pit stops as possible to celebrate with and encourage the Bike to Work Day participants. We still need volunteers to staff our tables. If you can help out for a few hours on that morning, please sign up here.

Finally, keep visiting our website and social media for details on FABB’s own celebration of Bike Month. As we did last year, in lieu of our regular monthly meeting, we are planning a short social ride followed by a gathering at local watering hole for food, drinks, and fellowship. So, again, please check back soon and we will have the final details and registration ready to go.
