Plan now to attend the next FABB virtual meeting on Thursday, March 15, at 7 pm. Our focus will be on the new I-66 Parallel Trail, which is being constructed as part of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project.

The VDOT project team will provide an update on construction progress and the planned opening this spring of sections of the new shared-use path. Our speakers will include Michelle Holland, the VDOT Transform 66 and Megaprojects Media Contact, and Yuquing Xiong, a Senior Transportation Planner, representing the Fairfax County Department of Transportation Special Projects Division.

The Transform 66 Project is constructing 11 miles of new shared-use path. The new trail will connect with other VDOT and FCDOT projects to form the Parallel Trail, which, when completed, will stretch from Gallows Road in Dunn Loring to Bull Run Park in Centreville. The project also is constructing bike lanes and shared-use path connections at interchanges along the corridor, including grade-separated crossings at the Nutley Street, Route 123, Route 50, and Route 28 interchanges.

FABB has been working on  ensuring that a suitable parallel trail was included in the project since the early 2010s. Read about some of our key efforts here, here, and here and at the links below.
