The trail that connects the Vienna Metro station south to the Cross County Trail and the City of Fairfax Connector trail through East Blake Lane Park is closed due to repairs to a detention pond dam, the Circle Woods Pond project. According to the county: “The trail between Vaden Dr. and Lee Highway will be closed for the duration of construction. Signs will reroute pedestrian and cycling traffic around the closed trail.”
We are told the signed detour is located on the paved trail along Vaden Drive from Saintsbury Drive south to Route 29, crossing the road and using the paved trail through Towers Park south to Route 50. Check out county detour map here.

The project was scheduled to be completed by November 2023. However, a protected hawk’s nest was discovered in the work area, so construction activity has stopped. To maintain compliance with federal law and applicable permits, the project will be on hold through the nesting period, which is anticipated to last through early June. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has confirmed that the tree and nest are allowed to be removed following the nesting period.
