Every person riding a bicycle, walking to school, or rolling through a neighborhood deserves to arrive safely. On Sunday, November 15, at 10:30 a.m., FABB encourages local riders to join Fairfax Families for Safe Streets and the Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets community at Woodson High School for the 2026 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
This gathering will honor those killed and seriously injured in traffic crashes, support grieving families, and call for action to prevent more deaths. The event is open to everyone and will take place in Cavalier Hall, Woodson High School, 9525 Main Street, Fairfax.

Organizers report that 30 people have been killed while walking, biking, or rolling on Northern Virginia streets since last year’s observance. Each death leaves a family, friends, and a community facing an irreplaceable loss. This year’s gathering is especially painful following the death of a 13-year-old Frost Middle School student who was struck and killed by a person driving a truck on Pickett Road while bicycling home from school.
“Invest in Safety, Not Speed,” this year’s U.S. theme, connects remembrance with a demand for change. Safer street design, safer speed limits, and speed safety cameras offer proven ways to protect people. The program will bring together people affected by traffic violence and public officials to reflect on the losses and the work ahead.
For local bicyclists, showing up is a meaningful act of support. It tells grieving families that they are not alone and demonstrates to decisionmakers that safe streets are a community priority. FABB urges elected officials to turn that priority into funded improvements that protect people of all ages and abilities.
Visit the event page for details and share the invitation with your riding groups, schools, and neighborhood networks.
Bring a friend, invite a neighbor, and help build a strong turnout. Organizers have scheduled the gathering early enough for those interested to also attend the Ride for Your Life in Washington, DC, at 1 p.m.
On November 15, let’s come together to remember those lost, honor their families, and insist on action. Everyone deserves a safe trip home.
