FABB encourages Northern Virginia riders to bring your bikes, your families, and your commitment to safer streets to Washington, DC, on Sunday, November 15, for Ride for Your Life 2026. This ride, walk, and rally will honor people killed in traffic crashes and demand action to prevent more families from suffering these devastating losses.
Held on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, the event connects our region with communities across the country calling for change. This year’s U.S. theme, “Invest in Safety, Not Speed,” delivers a clear message: our elected officials must invest in safer street designs, safer speeds, and technologies that protect people.
For Northern Virginia bicyclists, that message reaches close to home. Dangerous intersections, missing connections, and roads designed for speed can turn an everyday trip into a life-threatening journey. Our safety—and the safety of everyone walking, rolling, or driving—depends on sustained investment and political leadership.
At a time when bike infrastructure faces funding threats and opposition, showing up matters. A strong turnout demonstrates that safe streets have broad community support. Everyone deserves to reach school, work, a park, or home safely.
Register for Ride for Your Life and join fellow riders, walkers, advocates, and families for an afternoon of remembrance and action.
Event schedule — Sunday, November 15
- 1 p.m.: Staging, check-in, and bike decorating at John Marshall Park, Washington, DC.

Partners include Hill Family Biking, DC Bike Party, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, and Families for Safe Streets chapters from DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Organizers are working to make the event educational and welcoming for children while respecting the solemn purpose of the day. You can participate on foot as well as by bicycle.
Want to do more? Organizers need ride marshals, walk marshals, send-off helpers, and rally helpers. Visit the event website to learn about volunteering. You can also fundraise to support the event and safe-streets advocacy. Half of Washington’s net proceeds will be shared with local advocacy partners working to make community streets safer.
Riders can also begin the day closer to home at the Fairfax World Day of Remembrance gathering, at 10:30 a.m. in Cavalier Hall at Woodson High School, 9525 Main Street, Fairfax. Organizers scheduled that gathering early enough for people interested in both events to participate.
Please invite your riding group, friends, and neighbors. Together, we can honor those we have lost, support their families, and press for the investments that will save lives.
