The 2025 Virginia General Assembly session has officially adjourned, and thanks to your advocacy, three critical road safety bills have passed both chambers! Now, they await Governor Youngkin’s signature, amendment, or veto by March 24.

All three bills passed with bipartisan support—a testament to the broad agreement on the need for safer streets!

  • SB1416 (Sen. Ebbin) – Strengthens penalties for drivers who strike and seriously injure or kill a vulnerable road user in a crosswalk.
  • SB1233 (Sen. Graves, amended to include camera provisions from Del. Siebold’s HB2041) – Expands speed and crosswalk safety cameras in school zones, work zones, and high-risk corridors.
  • HB2096 (Del. Hope) – Creates an Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) program, allowing speed-limiting devices for repeat reckless drivers as an alternative to license suspension.

What’s Next?

  • Thank your legislators if they supported these bills.
  • Urge Governor Youngkin to sign them into law—highlight their bipartisan nature and life-saving impact.

Your emails, calls, and engagement made a difference. Special thanks to Senators Ebbin and Graves and Delegates Hope and Seibold for championing these efforts!

Let’s keep up the momentum for safer, more bike-friendly streets.
