Halloween is getting closer—and so is one of Fairfax County’s most enjoyable fall bicycling traditions.
There is still time to register for the 11th Annual Tour de Mount Vernon Community Bike Ride, taking place Saturday, October 31, and FABB encourages riders to sign up, dust off their favorite costume, and join us for a memorable Halloween morning on two wheels.
FABB is once again a proud sponsor of the ride, hosted by Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck. This year’s Halloween date adds an extra dose of fun, including a pre-ride costume contest. We’re expecting the usual mix of bicyclists—but perhaps with a few more ghosts, superheroes, witches, and other mysterious creatures in the peloton.
Starting and finishing at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, riders can choose between 20-mile and 40-mile routes on paved roads and trails. Both offer a great opportunity to explore the history, scenery, and natural beauty of southern Fairfax County. Depending on the route, riders will encounter destinations including Mason Neck State Park, Gunston Hall, Pohick Bay Regional Park, the National Museum of the U.S. Army, and the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail.
And the fun doesn’t end when the riding does. Back at the Workhouse, participants can enjoy lunch, music, festivities, and beverages from Bunnyman Brewing.
Registration is $35 and includes a ride bag featuring tie-dye socks, a sweet potato chili lunch from La Prima Catering, and a $5 donation to FABB to help support our work for better bicycling throughout Fairfax County.
Check-in runs from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m., with riders departing between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. Ride monitors and Fairfax County Police will help riders navigate the routes. The event is rain or shine, helmets are required, and children may participate with an accompanying adult, although the routes are designed for experienced riders.
If you’ve been thinking about signing up, now is the time. The Tour de Mount Vernon combines a beautiful fall ride, local history, community, food, and this year a little Halloween silliness—all while supporting better bicycling in Fairfax County.
So tune up the bike, figure out how to make that costume work with a helmet, and register for the 11th Annual Tour de Mount Vernon today.
We hope to see you—and whatever you decide to dress up as—at the Workhouse on Halloween morning!
