This November, FABB encourages local Virginia riders to cross the Potomac River and participate in an impactful ride honoring World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and the memory of Sarah Debbink Langenkamp. In 2022 and 2023, many of you rode to mark this day and make a powerful statement about roadway safety. Thanks to your participation, these events gained national recognition, amplifying its call for change.

This year’s Ride for Your Life on November 17 is an opportunity to send a strong message to the next administration and Congress that it’s time to make roads safer for everyone—cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers alike. The ride will be part of a coordinated effort across the country, with over 100 Remembrance events aiming to make roads safer for all.

Coming just after the presidential election, the event will underscore the urgent need for safer roadways. We’re rallying around demands for concrete actions like freeing federal funds for bike paths and sidewalks, advancing vehicle safety technology, and implementing more comprehensive road safety measures. Our collective voice will be captured in a letter signed by supporting organizations, and with a large turnout, we can make it clear that safe streets are a top priority.

Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin and other civil society leaders will join us to speak, adding weight to our call for action.

Event Details

  • Ride: An 8-mile, slow-paced ride retracing Sarah’s final route in Bethesda. The ride will conclude at the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Walk: For those who prefer or are unable to ride, there will be a 1.4-mile walk starting from Freedom Plaza, accessible via the Federal Triangle Metro stop, and ending at the Lincoln Memorial.

Both the ride and walk will provide an opportunity to show solidarity, spread awareness, and push for safer streets. With your help, we can make this the largest Remembrance event in the country.
