Good news for Fairfax County bicyclists: the new Random Hills Park connection to the I-66 Parallel Trail is now open!

The Fairfax County Park Authority project adds approximately 1,000 feet of paved trail, connecting the I-66 Parallel Trail with the existing trail network in Random Hills Park and providing access to Random Hills Road. The new trail follows the east side of Difficult Run, largely using the alignment of the previous path to minimize impacts on surrounding natural resources.

Designed and constructed to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, the connection provides improved access for bicyclists and pedestrians of varying ages and abilities.

While relatively short, this is exactly the kind of connection that makes a trail network more useful. By linking the I-66 Parallel Trail directly with Random Hills Park and Random Hills Road, the project expands opportunities for riders to reach nearby neighborhoods and destinations without having to rely on major roads.

FABB is delighted to see this new connection open and another piece added to Fairfax County’s growing network of connected bicycle routes.

If you’re riding the I-66 Parallel Trail, check it out!
