FABB is proud to partner with the Sierra Club Great Falls Group, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), and other community groups to stand up for one of Northern Virginia’s most beloved resources: the W&OD Trail.

On Saturday, September 6 at 10 a.m., we’ll gather on the Vienna Town Green—just steps from the trail—to rally in support of protecting this vital corridor from unnecessary and damaging tree removal. We invite every rider, walker, neighbor, and trail enthusiast to join us.

For decades, the W&OD Trail has been a green ribbon through our communities, offering shade, beauty, and refuge from the car-dominated roads that surround it. But Dominion Energy’s ongoing clear-cutting operations threaten to strip away much of what makes the trail so special. After unilaterally walking away from a 20-year agreement with NOVA Parks, Dominion began aggressive tree cutting this year, sparking widespread alarm among residents and local officials alike.

While some of the work has paused, and Dominion has promised more community engagement, trees are still coming down. Emergency removals continue, and the company has yet to commit to a new agreement that would balance utility needs with environmental stewardship and trail preservation.

That’s why we’re rallying—to give voice to the trees, and to call on our elected leaders and Dominion to renegotiate a better deal. The rally will feature a short speaker program with local leaders and advocates. Bring a homemade sign or pick one up on-site. Most importantly, bring your presence. Your participation will show that this trail matters—to everyone who rides, walks, rolls, or runs in Northern Virginia.

Plan to ride to the event if you can—the Town Green is located directly on the W&OD, near the Vienna caboose and trail parking lot. Let’s us know you are coming by registering (no cost) here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rally-for-w-od-tickets-1596501070679

Can’t attend in person? You can still make a difference by signing WABA’s petition here:  waba.org/action-page/stop-dominions-degrading-the-wod

Let’s send a strong, united message: Protect the W&OD. Keep our trail green.
