The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a virtual public meeting on proposed paving and restriping changes in Franconia and Mount Vernon Districts on Wednesday, April 19, at 7 pm, and FABB is asking local riders to participate in force to support bike lanes included in the proposals.

In Mount Vernon District, FCDOT and VDOT are proposing to add buffered or standard bike lanes on Fort Hunt Road between Richmond Highway and Belle View Boulevard where space allows by narrowing travel lanes or repurposing underutilized parking lanes where feasible. FABB urges bicyclists who use this area to Speak Up! in support of buffered lanes to improve safety and increase the appeal of the lanes to a wider range of riders.

In Franconia District, FCDOT and VDOT are only proposing crosswalk upgrades, but FABB supports all pedestrian safety improvements, especially those that enhance visibility at crosswalks.

Riders can join online here. By phone, you can participate by dialing 571-429-5982 and using the Phone Conference ID: 468 495 806#.

If unable to participate, you can still Speak Up! for better bicycling because FCDOT will be accepting comments through close of business on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, via email using the feedback form here. Please note in the subject line the appropriate district repaving project.
