• 2020 Mount Vernon District paving and restriping plans include no new bike facilities.
  • March 11 public meeting on program excellent opportunity to speak up for local biking needs.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold another in the series of 2020 paving and restriping meetings for the Mount Vernon District on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 pm at the Mount Vernon Governmental Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, in Alexandria. Community members will have the opportunity to learn about VDOT’s repaving program and give feedback. Comments regarding Mount Vernon District repaving will be accepted through Wednesday, March 25, at the FCDOT website here.

Unfortunately, there are no restriping changes planned for the Mount Vernon District in 2020, which means there will be no added bike facilities as part of the program. The meeting still provides an opportunity for local bicyclists and other residents to speak directly with road engineers and transportation planners about the ongoing need for safety improvements in the district. We encourage local riders to attend the meeting and speak up for more bike lanes, sharrows, and crosswalk improvements. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm open house with a formal presentation following later.
