Andrew Sheldon
FABB was pleased to see Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) had hired Andrew Sheldon for the position of Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Specialist. Andrew has over eight years of experience related to safe routes to schools.
In his most recent role as a Health and Physical Education teacher, Andrew was one of the first members of the SRTS traveling bike fleet. He organized the first Title 1 middle school to receive their own set of bikes, allowing him to teach students to ride for the first time as well as how to ride safely.
Also, he helped to improve the bike safety program by creating the engaging curriculum teachers in FCPS use today. He also organized many events promoting pedestrian and bike safety. Andrew is looking forward to the partnership with FABB to continue to advocate for the growth of the Safe Routes to School program.
The SRTS Program has done so much to educate students on pedestrian and bicycle safety, increase their daily physical activity, and help them arrive at school energized and ready to learn.
Educating a generation of children in traffic safety and active lifestyle benefits us all, and FABB will remain a strong advocate for this cost-effective and worthwhile program to advance multiple transportation, safety, health, and environmental goals.
