FABB is proud to be joining with the Fairfax County Park Authority next month to celebrate Farmers Markets!

National Farmers Market Week, August 7-13, is a great opportunity for Fairfax County riders to show their support for these markets and the value they bring to their communities by biking to shop for fresh, locally-grown food. During this week, FABB will be encouraging and supporting riders to take advantage of the health, fitness, and fun benefits of biking and fresh food.

The Fairfax County Park Authority operates ten farmers markets at a variety of locations including parks, rec centers, and commuter parking lots from April to November. Each market operates one day a week, Wednesday to Sunday, typically from 8:00 am to noon. Farmers markets provide the freshest produce, including seasonal fruits and vegetables, and you will find stands with meat, eggs, cheese, canned foods, and more!

These markets are a great opportunity to buy local and bike local! Just like biking, farmers markets help to build communities. Getting out of cars and onto bikes adds to the markets’ spirit of good health, fresh air, and low stress shopping.

Check out our Bike to Market video!

Other than your bike, all you need is a shopping list, bike panniers or a large backpack, some reusable bags, ice packs for safely transporting meat and cheese, and a small towel, t-shirt, or lidded plastic container to protect fragile items such as eggs.

FABB is looking for volunteers to research bike routes to each market and to staff information tables at the markets to encourage more shoppers to bike. Check out this post for details. Otherwise contact us at [email protected].

Plan now to join us at the farmers markets! See you there!
