FABB wants to ensure that local riders don’t miss this crucial opportunity to get involved in the future of biking and walking in Fairfax County! On Wednesday, September 11, at 7:00 pm, the Fairfax County Trails, Sidewalks, and Bikeways Committee will host a key presentation by Heidi Mitter and Brian Leckie, bicycle-pedestrian planning staff from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Northern Virginia District office. This meeting will be held in Room 8 at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.
The VDOT team has been asked to provide updates on critical topics affecting our biking and walking infrastructure, including:
- Funding Levels: Discover how much funding is dedicated to pedestrian and bicycle safety in Fairfax County.
- Trail Paving Plans: Learn about VDOT’s current and upcoming trail paving projects in our area.
- Trail Maintenance Standards: Find out about the maintenance standards that keep our trails safe and accessible.
- Major Trail Projects: Get the latest on the I-495 Next trail construction and planning for the I-495 Southside Express Way, including subway service over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and a new trail from Springfield to the bridge.
- New Trails, Sidewalks, and Bikeways: Hear about which VDOT trails, sidewalks, and bikeways are under construction or in the planning stages in Fairfax County.
As always, the committee will open the floor for public questions and comments at 8:30 pm. This is your chance to advocate for better biking infrastructure and safety measures. Let’s make sure our needs are heard loud and clear!
