FABB encourages local riders to participate in and Speak Up! for bicycling at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) virtual public meeting on proposed paving and restriping changes in the Hunter Mill and Providence Districts on Monday, April 17, at 7 pm.

In Hunter Mill District, FCDOT and VDOT are proposing to add standard bike lanes on Glade Drive between Sunrise Valley Drive and Reston Parkway where space allows by narrowing travel lanes. Local riders should ask for protected/buffered bike lanes where feasible or a commitment by the departments to add protection as soon as possible. FCDOT and VDOT also are considering upgrades to the crosswalk at Monroe Street and Monroe Manor Drive, which may include marked crosswalks, high-visibility crosswalks and/or crosswalk signage that bicyclists should support.

In Providence District, FCDOT and VDOT are proposing to add standard or buffered bike lanes by narrowing travel lanes or repurposing underutilized parking lanes where feasible on Executive Park Avenue between the Red Cross building and Prosperity Avenue; Gatehouse Road between Telestar Court to Gallows Road and potentially Gallows Road to Williams Drive; Williams Drive between Eskridge Road and Arlington Boulevard and potentially between Arlington Boulevard to Pennell Street; and Willow Oaks Corporate Drive between Williams Drive and Gallows Road. FABB asks that local riders and others who bike through these areas voice their support for buffered bike lanes in all cases.

Riders can join online here. By phone, you can participate by dialing 571-429-5982 and using the Phone Conference ID: 893 826 247#.

If unable to participate, you can still Speak Up! for better bicycling because FCDOT will be accepting comments through close of business on Monday, May 1, 2023, via email using the feedback form here. Please note in the subject line the appropriate district repaving project.
