Hey, Alexandria-area riders, the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities and the Department of Project Implementation will host an in-person community meeting on the Holmes Run Bike & Pedestrian Trail Restoration Project on July 28 at 6:30 pm at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center (located at 4653 Taney Ave). This is a great opportunity to learn about the restoration schedule, planned restoration activities, and show your support.

A portion of the Holmes Run Trail within Dora Kelley Park has been closed since 2018 because of flooding and severe erosion that undermined the stability and structural integrity of the trail and boardwalk. Three additions sections and two bridges were severely damaged or undermined by flooding in 2019. As part of the project’s design phase Alexandria is studying the floods overall impact to determine how the trail, bridges, and slopes should be modified to minimize potential damage from future flood events. The meeting is an opportunity to ensure that cyclist perspectives are included in these considerations for making the trail and surrounding area more resilient.
