The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) wants your input on the future of the Route 29 corridor — and local riders should Speak Up! to make their voices heard.
FCDOT will host an in-person community meeting for the Route 29 Active Transportation Study at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at Timber Lane Elementary School. Staff will present several concepts aimed at making the corridor safer and more comfortable for people biking, walking, rolling, and accessing transit.
The study focuses on the two-mile stretch of Route 29 between I-495 and the Falls Church border — a corridor that today can feel difficult and uncomfortable to cross or travel without a car. Proposed improvements include:
- Continuous sidewalks
- Shorter crossing distances
- Safer mid-block crossings
- Better access to bus stops and shelters
- Improved bicycle and pedestrian connectivity
Importantly, the study is also exploring ways to improve multimodal access while helping the corridor remain at four travel lanes instead of widening to six.
This is exactly the kind of conversation where FABB members and supporters can make a difference. If you bike, walk, take transit, or simply want safer and more connected streets in the Route 29 corridor, please attend and share your experiences and ideas.
