FABB wants to express our great appreciation to the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, who have been doing great work helping to maintain the very popular Mount Vernon Trail. In recent months the group’s volunteers have been edging the trail and clearing overgrown vegetation to restore the trail’s width and improve lines of sight, all of which makes the trail safer and more enjoyable.
They are not stopping there, however, and the group has some upcoming volunteer events to improve safety trail further by power-washing a few of the wooden bridges along the trail in Fairfax County.
More volunteers are needed, and FABB encourages trail users to pitch in and help make bicycling better on this local treasure.
The three events currently scheduled for bridges in Fairfax are:
- Saturday, April 24th – Bridge 3 cleaning (north end of Riverside Park) – Sign up at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/148698187281
- Sunday, April 25th – Bridge 3 cleaning (north end of Riverside Park) – Sign up at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/148698648661
- Saturday, May 1 – Bridge 1 cleaning (.5 miles north of Mount Vernon Estates) – Sign up at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/148283348487
