FABB and other bicycle advocacy groups are getting an early start to gearing up to make May 2022 the best National Bike Month ever. Events celebrate biking as transportation, as recreation, and as essential to our well-being and everyday lives. We hope you will join us by planning now to participate in Bike Month activities.
Bike to Work Day
The star of Bike Month is Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 20, and this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the largest ever.
Registration has already started for Metropolitan Washington’s Bike to Work Day 2022 and the first 15,000 riders who register for the event online and arrive at a pit stop by bike will receive a FREE T-shirt. The pitstops also offer giveaways and free food and beverages.
This year’s event features at least 41 pit stops in and around Fairfax County, including 9 in the City of Alexandria, 10 in Arlington County, and 22 in Fairfax County plus the Cities of Falls Church and Fairfax.
National Ride A Bike Day
The second National Ride A Bike Day is set for the first Sunday in May, which this year falls on May 1, 2022. This a great opportunity to invite family, friends, and neighbors to join you on a ride. When more people ride bikes, life is better for everyone. And starting Bike Month with rides throughout our communities is a great way to show our county leaders why making it easier, safer, and more accessible to ride a bike is so important to so many people.
Bike & Roll to School Day
This event will be held on May 4, 2022 with registration opening on March 8. Previously known as Bike to School Day, Bike & Roll to School Day continues to promote its longstanding goal of safe and accessible spaces for all active trips. The event shows that starting with children and the trip to school is a critical first step in reaching the goal of safer communities for active transportation. Many Fairfax County Public Schools regularly participate in this annual event, and FABB is asking parents to encourage their kids’ schools to continue or start their involvement in this great program.
FABB is currently completing our plans for participation in Bike Month events and more information about events and volunteering will be available soon.
Still, we encourage everyone to plan now to participate in Bike Month events and to encourage others to join you. In particular, please help FABB spread our message of better bicycling by contacting us at [email protected] and volunteering to represent our group at a Bike to Work Day pit stop.
