Frontier Drive Expansion Area

Local riders need to share their ideas to ensure that a planned shared-use path meets needs of all users at VDOT joint virtual design and environmental assessment public hearing on Tuesday, July 12, at 7:00 pm.

VDOT is developing plans to extend Frontier Drive (Route 2677) from its southern terminus at Franconia-Springfield Parkway (Route 289) to Loisdale Road (Route 789) to relieve congestion and improve access to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station and surrounding area.

The project includes a shared-use path and sidewalk along both sides of the four-lane divided roadway. This is a significant improvement to original plans that called for unprotected bike lanes on the street.

Information for accessing and participating in the virtual meeting is available at https://www.virginiadot.org/FrontierDrive and https://wmata.com/plansandprojects.

You can provide your comments after the meeting by the July 29, 2022 deadline using the comment form on the VDOT or Metro website, by phone at 202-962-1901, or by email to [email protected] and [email protected]. Please reference “Frontier Drive Extension and Braided Ramps” in the subject line.

You also can send your comments by mail to Mr. Zamir Mirza, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030 or Office of the Secretary, WMATA, 300 7th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024.
