The Virginia General Assembly will start soon, and the Fairfax County government is holding a a public send-off for the Fairfax delegation to Richmond on Saturday, January 5, 2019. The public hearing will provide an opportunity for county residents to raise issues about and express support for efforts to improve road safety and make bicycling better with local delegates and senators. The Virginia Bicycling Federation expects there will be legislative proposals this year on distracted driving. There also may be legislation proposed to increase penalties when a pedestrian or bicyclist is injured or killed.

The forum will begin at 9:00 am in the board room of the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, in Fairfax. If you want to speak to the delegation, you must sign up in advance.  Register online using this form or contact the Office of the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors at 703-324-3151, TTY 711, by noon on Thursday, January 3.

The hearing will be televised live on Fairfax County Television Channel 16 (Channel 1016 in HD on Cox; Channel 16 on Verizon or Comcast), and can also be viewed on-line through the Channel 16 stream.
