As we look ahead to the next few years, FABB is excited to share our Strategic Goals for 2025–2027—a roadmap for building a safer, more connected, and more bike-friendly Fairfax County. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help to turn these goals into action.
Advocate for a Safe, Connected Bicycle Network
We are committed to advocating for a comprehensive bicycle network that makes biking a safe and viable option for all ages and abilities. Key actions include:
- Shaping the ActiveFairfax Transportation Plan: FABB will provide input to ensure the bicycle elements of this new plan are robust and actionable—and we’ll push for funding and implementation after adoption.
- Demanding Better Maintenance: From cracked asphalt to unkempt trails, maintenance issues undermine safety. We’ll work with County and VDOT officials to secure funding and staff for regular maintenance.
- Supporting Protected Infrastructure: Painted bike lanes aren’t enough. We’ll advocate for buffered and physically protected lanes where appropriate, giving riders the safety and comfort they deserve
- Informing and Activating Riders: We’ll track key transportation projects and mobilize riders to provide feedback and push for bicycle-friendly outcomes.
Engage the Community, Coalitions, and Others
Advocacy starts with relationships—and we’re working to deepen ours across the board:
- Grow Our Volunteer Network: Whether you want to help at events, serve as a ride marshal, or speak at a public meeting, we want to hear from you.
- Engage and Strengthen Partnerships: We’ll continue building relationships with regional coalitions, environmental groups, and mobility advocates to multiply our impact.
- Expand Outreach: Look for us at community events throughout the year—we’re working to bring the message of safer streets to every corner of Fairfax.
Strengthen FABB as an Organization
To achieve more, we’re planning for growth:
- Diversify Our Funding: Member support is key, but we’re also exploring grants, partnerships, and sponsorships to fund expanded efforts.
- Explore Staff Expansion: FABB has achieved a lot as an all-volunteer group, but adding dedicated staff will help us scale up our advocacy.
- Strengthen Governance: We’re strengthening internal structures to ensure FABB remains an effective voice for cyclists well into the future.
Join Us: Make the Vision Real
The goals are ambitious—but with your help, they’re absolutely achievable. Whether you’re a long-time advocate or a new rider eager to see change, now is the perfect time to get involved and join FABB!
