FABB wants to make sure Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail users are aware that Dominion Energy is set to undertake a significant electric transmission project that will impact the trail in Vienna later this year. To ensure the safety of trail users and Dominion crews, there will be temporary reroutes off the trail during parts of the project.
This project involves replacing the wires along a four-mile transmission line between Clark and Idylwood substations. The work will span the area along the W&OD trail at Ayr Hill Avenue to the area near Shrevewood Elementary, approximately between Mile Markers 8 to 12.
Two detours will be required, each lasting 1-2 weeks on weekdays only. Detailed information about the detours will be provided as it becomes available. During the detours, signage will guide trail users along the new routes, and maps will be accessible on our website.
Pre-construction activities for the first phase of the project will commence this summer, with the initial trail detour scheduled for early November. The second phase’s pre-construction activities will start in spring 2025, with the final detour expected in summer 2025.
