May is National Bike Month, so dust off your bikes, join in the celebrations, and embrace the joy of cycling! Whether you’re just getting started or a long-time rider, there are plenty of ways to get involved and show your support for a safer, more bike-friendly community.

National Bike Month is a great opportunity to celebrate bicycling and promote riding as a fun, healthy, and sustainable form of transportation. Every time you ride, you’re helping to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and boost your own fitness and well-being. You’re also sending a strong message: we need communities designed for people, not just cars.

Get Involved!

  • Ride: There’s no simpler way to celebrate than by getting on your bike! Take a solo ride, organize a family outing, or join a local group ride. Every mile you ride is a step toward a healthier you—and a stronger biking community.
  • Volunteer: FABB and other local groups will be hosting and supporting special events throughout May, including Bike to Work Day. Volunteering is a great way to meet other riders, support cycling advocacy, and have some fun while making a difference.
  • Join: Consider joining FABB. We work year-round to promote safer streets, better trails, and bike-friendly policies in Fairfax County and across the region. Your support makes these efforts stronger!
  • Participate: Don’t miss major events like Bike and Roll to School Day and Bike to Work Day (Thursday, May 15)! These events show the power of cycling to bring people together—and show policymakers the growing demand for safe cycling infrastructure.

National Bike Month isn’t just about a single event—it’s about embracing cycling in all aspects of life. Challenge yourself to bike to work, the store, or even just around your neighborhood more often this May. Try a new trail, join a group ride, or encourage a friend to hop on a bike for the first time.

Together, we can build momentum toward a healthier, more sustainable future—one ride, one volunteer shift, one new rider at a time.

Celebrate National Bike Month with FABB—and help make our streets safer and more welcoming for everyone.
