Another day, another survey that local riders need to complete. This one is on Gallows Road and must be completed by this Friday, October 6, 2023, to be used in an ongoing study.
We’re not complaining and hope you won’t either. When county and state transportation officials seek our input, it is a great step forward in moving toward better bicycling.
You may recall that on September 19 and 20 the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) held public information meetings about their Gallows Road Study. Attendees were told that everything from a bike boulevard to reversable traffic lanes and upgraded travel lanes were under consideration to reduce stress levels for riders and walkers. A few bicyclists attended the meetings and shared their thoughts about the various proposals.

These general comments were helpful, but FCDOT is now asking the public for more details about needed improvements. We need local riders familiar with the area to Speak Up! and share their knowledge about conditions and needs by filling out the Gallows Road Study Survey. The survey inquires about travel reasons and modes and includes an interactive map where you can enter specific comments about needed improvements.
If you would like shared used paths over 495—and you should—please include that in your survey response.
Unless a significant number of bicyclists respond, planners may believe interest is lacking in making extensive improvements.”
Help us avoid that and give FCDOT your survey responses by the deadline this Friday, October 6, 2023.
