Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 15, 2026—and you’re invited!

If you’ve ever thought about biking to work—or just want an excuse to get out for a great ride—this is your day. Bike to Work Day (BTWD) is a free, region-wide celebration of biking that brings together thousands of riders across the DC metro area.

Whether you’re a daily commuter or trying it for the very first time, Bike to Work Day is all about making biking fun, easy, and accessible.

What Is Bike to Work Day?

Bike to Work Day is an annual event co-organized by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Commuter Connections program and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. Now in its 25th year, the event has grown from just a few hundred riders in 2001 to tens of thousands of participants across the DMV today.

And it’s not just for experienced riders—far from it. In 2025, 16% of participants had never biked to work before—that’s more than 1,000 people trying it for the very first time!
