Superintendent Cuvelier is responsible for the park’s $13 million annual budget and 120 employees. He oversees projects such as the rehabilitation of Memorial Bridge, one of the largest infrastructure projects in NPS history. Cuvelier also is the chief of law enforcement, security, and emergency services, which have a $21 million annual budget.
FABB and the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail are proud to be hosting a virtual meeting with George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) Superintendent Charles Cuvelier on May 20 at 7:00 pm.
Plan now to join us for his presentation on the Mount Vernon Trail (MVT) Corridor Study, the first comprehensive analysis of the design, condition, usage, and crash history of the MVT. (Read more about the study in this FABB blog.)
We also will use the meeting to ask the superintendent about the recently-released safety assessment of GWMP South (the section of the Parkway spanning from Old Town Alexandria to Mount Vernon Estate). This report makes important recommendations affecting bicyclists who cross the GWMP to get to the trail. The meeting is an opportunity to share rider experiences with the superintendent and offer ideas to additional needed safety improvements for intersections where crash rates are highest in the corridor.
