Are you passionate about cycling? Do you believe in making our streets safer and more accessible for all? Then, FABB needs your help right now!

We are calling on local cyclists to volunteer and help our board scrutinize Fairfax County’s proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget. This is your chance to ensure that the commitments made to enhance bicycling in our community are not just words but actions that make a real difference.

Why Your Help is Crucial

Fairfax County has unveiled its FY2025 budget, and it’s time to roll up our sleeves. FABB’s board recognizes the importance of this review and has made it a priority project. But, we can’t do it alone. Identifying allocations for bike-related staff and projects is challenging, but with your keen eyes, we can ensure that the budget reflects our community’s needs.

For example, we’ve heard that the Fairfax County Park Authority’s full trails funding request, primarily for adequate staff to perform much needed trail maintenance, is not being met. County residents who use and rely on these trails know that the FCPA’s proposed increase from $350,000 to $500,000 is much needed. This is more than a budget line—it’s about ensuring our trails remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.

But there’s more to the budget than trails. We need to ensure that all aspects of cycling, walking, and rolling in Fairfax County receive fair and adequate funding. This is about equity, safety, and the well-being of our community.

How You Can Make a Difference

We need your insight, your passion, and your local knowledge. By joining our budget review team, when can divide up the lengthy document and devote more time to understanding it. This can be done from your home and, for a few hours of your time, you’ll be making an important contribution to a more bike-friendly Fairfax County. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a casual rider, your perspective is valuable.
