FABB urges local riders to plan now to attend a Virginia Department of Transportation virtual public information meeting on Thursday, January 13 at 7 pm on planned multimodal improvements for a key portion of Braddock Road. The plans involve intersection and other improvements along three miles of Braddock Road between Humphries Drive in Burke and Ravensworth Road in Annandale and a half-mile of Ravensworth Road between Braddock Road and Heritage Drive.
In addition to intersection enhancements, the plans provide for new and upgraded shared-use paths along both sides of the road for the entire project length to I-495.
- The paths will include at-grade pedestrian crossings.
- In addition, access from Braddock Road to the Cross County Trail at the underpass at Accotink Creek will be improved.
This project has been in the works for several years with multiple county-run public meetings with the most recent being held in August 2020. The project design will continue to be refined with additional meetings in the fall and winter of 2022 with final approval expected in the spring of 2023.
Local riders need to participate and show support for the shared use path improvements. We need to ensure that the proposed path is wide enough to accommodate bikers and walkers and that ample space is provided at intersections for all users.
Information for accessing and participating in this virtual meeting is available at https://www.virginiadot.org/BraddockMultimodal.
