FABB encourages local riders to celebrate National Trails Day, which is held each year on the first Saturday in June. The observance the year on June 3 commemorates our communitywide commitment to leaving the trails and parks better than when you found them.
Biking, walking, jogging, or otherwise spending time along trails offers many benefits for sustained health and well-being. Physical benefits include building stronger muscles and bones, improving balance, improving heart health, and decreasing the risk of some respiratory issues. Mental health benefits include improved mood, reduced stress, lower risk of depression and anxiety, and improved sensory perception.
Fairfax County Park Authority has a number of events scheduled to make the day even more interesting. They days starts with a ribbon cutting for the new Accotink Creek Stream Crossing at Lake Accotink Park at 8:30 am. Other events are:
- Hikes with a Naturalist – 9 am and 2 pm at Lake Accotink Park and 10 am at Lake Fairfax Park.
- History Hikes – 10 am and noon at Lake Accotink Park.
- Mountain Bike Trail Tour – 10 am at Lake Accotink Park.
- Summer Sun Hike and Craft – 2 pm at Burke Lake Park.
- Technology in Nature – 4 pm at Lake Accotink Park.
- Night Hike and S’mores Campfire – 7:30 to 9 pm at Lake Fairfax Park.
- Bats Class – 8:30 pm at Lake Accotink Park.
