FABB is encouraging interested Fairfax County citizens to take advantage of a FREE advocacy education event on helping schools and other organizations support youth bicycling. The conference, conducted by Outride, a leading national youth bicycling organization, will take place on July 28, 2021, from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. Although completely free and open to the public, registration is required.

The Advancing Youth and Community Well-Being through Cycling summit will showcase findings from bike education programs and more general bicycling research that highlights the impact of bicycling on health, equity, happiness and community well-being.

Each summit presentation will feature actionable research insights with applicable, relevant lessons for attendees’ communities. The summit’s full agenda, previewed here, covers a wide range of topics, such as the impact of bicycling on cognitive function and mental health and empowerment through bicycling.

PeopleForBikes’ team member Rebecca Davies will highlight the PeopleForBikes’ Bicycle Network Analysis tool and its potential to measure how accessible school locations are by bike. In addition, representatives of the National Youth Bike Council, a group of teenagers organizing young leaders in bicycling communities around the country, will talk about their experiences with promoting cycling.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about ways to advance youth cycling that can be put to use locally. Please plan to join us in participating in one or more of the virtual sessions and help make bicycling better in Fairfax County.
