I am pleased to announce that the FABB board has elected Joy Faunce as our new President. Joy is a lifelong resident of Fairfax County, a small business owner, and an avid cyclist. She joined our board last year. She has shown strong leadership skills and will bring fresh ideas to the board. I will continue serving on the board this year as Past President. I am proud to have been with FABB since our first meeting in 2005 held at bikes@vienna and attended by several bike advocates.

Our advocacy has achieved a great deal since 2005. Since that time the county has established the Bicycle Program (now the Active Transportation Program) and developed the Bicycle Master Plan. When FABB began, bicycle infrastructure in the county was an afterthought. Now including bicycle facilities in transportation projects has become a bigger part of the culture at FCDOT and VDOT.

Joy Faunce, FABB President

None of this would have happened without the actions of the FABB board, our two previous presidents Sonya Breehey and Jeff Anderson, and volunteers like you. I hope you will help our new President Joy Faunce and the board continue to make Fairfax a better place to bike.

As FABB moves forward with its 2024 advocacy work, the Board is adjusting the committee structure to align with the yearly priorities and improve engagement with members and volunteers. Board members will serve as chair of the following committees:

  • Executive
  • Finance
  • Marketing/Communications
  • Outreach
  • Development (Fundraising)
  • Advocacy

Under this structure, each committee will have subcommittees focused on specific FABB priorities and activities. Combined with the new volunteer outreach being planned, this will provide more opportunities for members and volunteers to be more involved in the work of FABB.

If you are interested in volunteering on a committee or subcommittee, please send a message to board members Yvette White ([email protected]) or Joy Faunce ([email protected]).
