FABB encourages members of faith to join the Fairfax County Bicycle and Pedestrian team in celebrating the second annual Bike and Walk to Worship Week between 18 and 24 August 2019.

The Bicycle and Pedestrian team is ready support efforts by representatives of local congregations to conduct their own Bike and Walk to Worship event.  The team can provide a toolkit document, branding for events, and advice on bike routes and safety. Last year’s celebration included group rides to morning prayers and “blessing of the bikes” services. All places of worship are encouraged to participate, and congregations may choose which day they wish to participate. The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will help promote the event.

FABB also is ready to help with bike route planning, advice on bike parking, and other support. We believe that this is a great opportunity for congregations to support the environment, cut down on congestion and transportation costs, and relieve overcrowded parking lots. Walking and biking to worship can become a healthy habit by providing an easy-to-adopt physical exercise for all congregants In addition, active life styles that include biking and walking promote health and wellness that contribute to strong congregations.

If you are interested in championing biking and walking for your congregation in this way, please email [email protected] to participate. If you would like some extra support from FABB, reach out to us at [email protected].
