Plan now to join an important webinar run by George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government’s Regional Elected Leaders Initiative on Friday, September 29, from noon to 1:15 pm.

The Zoom webinar, “Reducing Roadway Deaths and Injuries: Fairfax County’s Playbook,” will feature Fairfax County Police Department Chief Bob Blakley, Coalition for Smart Growth Northern Virginia Advocacy Manager Sonya Breehey, Virginia Tech Transportation Institute Executive Director Zachary Doerzaph, and Fairfax County Deputy County Executive Rachel Flynn.

Led by moderator, Mary Hynes, a former Arlington County Board member, the panel will discuss issues such as Fairfax County’s approach to using engineering, education and enforcement strategies to reduce risk to vulnerable roadway users around schools, libraries, parks and other gathering places.

The panelists also will address the process for applying mitigation measures to a specific location and similar roads and intersections following a death or serious injury. They also will discuss state and local policy changes that might make our region’s roads safer for all users.

To participate, simply register here.

This is an important opportunity to learn more about transportation safety policy and identify ways to increase the public’s voice and impact on mitigation measures.
