Do you bike near South Van Dorn Street? Have you ever felt like the road could be safer for cyclists and pedestrians? Now’s your chance to help shape improvements!

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) wants your input! VDOT is conducting a STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study to evaluate safety and operational conditions along S. Van Dorn Street from Telegraph Road to the Alexandria city line—a key corridor that connects neighborhoods, businesses, and transit hubs like Braddock Metro.

Why It Matters for Biking:

  • The corridor has heavy traffic (14,000–37,000 vehicles daily) but lacks safe, continuous bike infrastructure.
  • It’s a critical connection for commuters, students at nearby Thomas Edison High School, and recreational riders.
  • This is a rare chance to push for better bike lanes, safer crossings, and improved trail connections.

Take Action Now! VDOT wants your feedback by March 14—use this survey to share your experiences and ideas. The more cyclists speak up, the better chance we have at getting real improvements!

Let’s make S. Van Dorn Street safer and more bike-friendly—every voice counts!
