• Northern Virginia’s transportation future is at a turning point—and your voice can help make the difference.

Thanks to regional coordination and a clear vision for a better-connected, less car-dependent future, leaders across the DC–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) region have endorsed the DMVMoves plan to address urgent funding needs for Metro and other local transit systems. Fairfax County and Northern Virginia elected officials have stepped up. Now it’s time for state legislators and the DC Council to follow through—and they need to hear from you.

That’s why FABB is urging all Fairfax County riders to send an email to your legislators today. Use this link to contact your representatives and ask them to support new, sustainable funding for Metro and local transit in the 2026 state budgets. It’s quick and easy, and it will have impact.

Why It Matters to Bicyclists

FABB has always advocated for a multimodal transportation network—one that gives people safe, affordable, and environmentally sound alternatives to driving. Transit and bicycling go hand in hand: when Metro, local buses, and commuter rail systems thrive, so do connections to trails, bike lanes, and safer streets.

Transit systems need stable operating funds and long-term capital investments to:

  • Modernize infrastructure
  • Ensure reliable service
  • Improve safety and access
  • Expand alternatives to solo driving

Without decisive action in 2026, Metro faces a looming funding gap—and local bus systems, VRE, and other services may also struggle. That affects all of us, including the growing number of people who ride bikes to Metro or rely on buses to complete their trips.

The DMVMoves Vision.

What’s Proposed

Under the DMVMoves plan, Metro would receive an additional $460 million per year in capital funding—split among DC, Maryland, and Virginia—with automatic adjustments for inflation. Local transit systems in Virginia and Maryland would also see increased support. But these improvements depend on legislators taking action now, before budget decisions are made in early 2026.

Your Voice = Progress

The General Assembly session starts soon—and decision-makers need to hear that their constituents support this bold step. Please join FABB and others across the region by emailing your representatives today.
