• Fairfax County needs your voice!

The Roberts Parkway Active Corridor Study is underway, and local bicyclists and trail users have an important opportunity to shape how this corridor evolves to better serve active transportation. From Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) to Burke Centre Parkway, this study aims to improve safety, accessibility, and multimodal connections for people walking, biking, and rolling in the corridor. If you ride or walk in the area—or would like to—this is your chance to help make it safer, more comfortable, and better connected by completing a short survey.

This new survey builds on a 2025 effort from which the following concerns were identified and conclusions reached:

Crashes and Safety Concerns

  • Between 2018 and 2024, 92 crashes occurred on Roberts Parkway, 30 involving injuries.
  • Two bike crashes happened at the busy Burke Centre Parkway intersection.
  • The corridor also suffers from dangerous pedestrian crossings, aggressive driving, and inadequate lighting and signage.

Poor Bike and Pedestrian Access

  • The shared path is too narrow to safely accommodate both walkers and cyclists.
  • Slip lanes, blocked crosswalks, and short pedestrian signal times make crossings difficult and risky.
  • Cyclist safety was one of the key themes raised during earlier public input.

Key Connections at Risk

  • Roberts Parkway links neighborhoods to key destinations like VRE, shopping centers, schools, and trail networks.
  • But poor bike/ped infrastructure limits safe access.
Your Input Can Lead to Real Change

Fairfax County and the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) are working together to evaluate options and need your feedback on proposed improvements. Whether you ride this corridor daily or want to see safer routes countywide, your voice counts.

Complete the survey by January 21, 2026!

By sharing your feedback, you’re helping create smarter, safer infrastructure—not just for yourself, but for every rider, walker, and commuter in the region.
