• Ride with us to remember. Ride for change. Ride for Your Life.

This November 16, riders from across the region will gather once again for Ride for Your Life, the area’s largest and most powerful event dedicated to safer streets. Now in its fourth year, the ride honors lives lost on our roadways and demands real, legislative change to prevent future tragedies.

The ride began after the 2022 death of Sarah Debbink Langenkamp, a mother, U.S. diplomat, and bike commuter killed while riding in Bethesda. Since then, the ride has grown into a 10-mile call for action—drawing together advocates, elected officials, and communities to say: enough is enough.

Why This Ride Matters

Earlier this fall, Maryland officials completed long-overdue safety improvements to the bike lane where Sarah was struck and killed—proof that advocacy works. These improvements were a direct result of persistent public pressure and community organizing.

Now, we ride to do even more.

The 2025 Ride for Your Life will rally support for the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Active Transportation Safety Act (HR 2011 / S 944)—a bill in Congress that would give states more flexibility to use federal highway funds for bike and pedestrian infrastructure. With over 40,000 roadway deaths last year—including a record 1,166 bicyclists—this bill is critical.

Riders will also back legislation in Virginia and Maryland that would allow “super speeders” (drivers with multiple reckless driving offenses) to be required to install speed limiters in their vehicles—a law already on the books in D.C.

It’s An Wonderful Ride!

The ride begins in Downtown Bethesda, heads down River Road, and passes Sarah’s ghost bike before continuing through quiet D.C. streets to the Lincoln Memorial. There, a rally will feature speeches from Congressional leaders and safe streets advocates as part of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

FABB urges our members and followers to show up for this great event. Northern Virginia riders know how urgently we need safer streets, protected bike lanes, and tougher laws.

Again, the 2025 Ride for Your Life occurs on Sunday, November 16, at 10:00 am. Make sure to bundle up—the ride takes place rain or shine! You can register for the ride and learn more here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ride-for-your-life-2025-tickets-1688894291289.

Our streets belong to everyone. Let’s ride to make that truth a reality.
