Shawn Newman, a Springfield District resident for the past ten years biked regularly as a kid and in his teens. After a fifteen-year break, he rediscovered his love of biking while teaching his kids to ride. Now an avid rider, Shawn bikes to work, for fun, and for errands all year long and participates in BikeArlington’s Freezing Saddles competition. He is a strong advocate for smarter zoning as a way to decrease the distance residents need to travel, for better walking and biking connections, and for the safety of vulnerable road users. Shawn leads FABB’s social media efforts on multiple platforms and represents FABB on the Fairfax County Trails, Sidewalks, and Bikeways Committee and the Virginia Bicycling Federation’s legislative engagement committee. Shawn publishes articles on the Greater Greater Washington website and is the voice behind West Springfield Walkable Community on Facebook and Twitter.
