FABB encourages Fairfax City and Vienna riders to Speak Up! in support of a small project to improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities along Route 29 at Towers Park.The proposed project would provide improved and safer access to the Vienna Metrorail Station, the Gerald Connelly Cross County Trail, and other amenities by completing a missing gap in the pedestrian and bicycle network along the south side of Lee Highway (Route 29) between Vaden Drive and Nutley Street. The project will also extend the Route 29 culvert over the tributary of Accotink Creek just west of Nutley Street to accommodate the shared-use path.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is now accepting written comments regarding Fairfax County Park Authority’s preliminary concurrence with the Federal Highway Administration’s applicability criteria for de minimis (a subject too trivial or minor to merit consideration) impacts on parkland. The estimated $2.1 million cost is funded by part of the concession fee provided under the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project Comprehensive Agreement.
The obvious benefits of this project makes this an easy decision to support. Just let VDOT know that you agree with the park authority’s preliminary concurrence and support the project’s eventual completion. You can review the documentation on the project website here.
