The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold the first community meeting on proposed 2020 paving and restriping projects for the Hunter Mill District on Tuesday, February 25.  The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at Terraset Elementary School, 11411 Ridge Heights Road, in Reston. This meeting will provide local bicyclists and other residents an opportunity to speak directly with road engineers and transportation planners about the paving program, proposed striping changes to add bike facilities, and general traffic safety concerns.

We are excited about this meeting because the plans include bike lanes—possibly some buffered one—and shared lane markings (sharrows) while also maintaining existing legal on-street parking. The new facilities are being planned for Beulah Road between Sideling Court NE and Clarks Crossing Road and Pine Valley Drive between Old Courthouse Road and Higdon Drive. VDOT and FCDOT also are proposing to add bike lanes to Glade Drive between Colts Neck Road and Glade Bank Way and may convert some underutilized on-street parking west of Charterhouse Circle to buffered bike lanes. Temporary Road between Old Reston Avenue and North Shore Drive is also slated to gain bike lanes.

Please plan now to attend and provide input on the roads scheduled for paving and restriping changes. The meetings will begin at 6:30 pm with a formal presentation beginning at 6:45 pm. This will be followed by questions, feedback, and comments. For residents who cannot attend the meetings in person, the meeting presentation will be available on the Hunter Mill District paving and restriping webpage, and feedback may be submitted online for two weeks following the meeting.
