FABB reminds local Springfield area riders that they have until March 30 to comment on the proposed bike lanes to be installed as part of the summer repaving and restriping program.

Bauer Drive

While FABB is always glad to see new bike facilities, new doesn’t always mean optimal. We depend on local riders to share their knowledge of their local areas and road conditions to help VDOT and FCDOT ensure that the proposed bike lanes improve the biking experience.

Please take a few minutes to review the VDOT presentation slides and then share your thoughts on the proposals with FCDOT here.

Bauer Drive from Old Keene Mill Road to Rolling Road: VDOT and FCDOT are proposing to add bike lanes where space allows. All legal on-street parking will be maintained.

Hunter Village Drive between Old Keene Mill Road and north of Painted Daisy Drive: VDOT and FCDOT are proposing to convert the existing shoulders to bike lanes where on-street parking is not needed. The slug parking will be maintained.

Lee Chapel Road

Lee Chapel Road between Old Keene Mill Road and Fairfax County Parkway: VDOT and FCDOT are proposing to add bike lanes by narrowing travel lanes.

Monument Drive from Monument Court to Fairfax County Parkway: VDOT and FCDOT are proposing to convert the underutilized outside travel lanes to calm travel speeds, improve the safety of pedestrian crossings and provide buffered bike lanes. Negative impacts to traffic operations are not expected due to low traffic volumes (pre-covid).

Don’t wait! The comment period closes on Tuesday.
