FABB encourages Northern Virginia cyclists to Speak Up on transportation projects that have been recommended for funding for the FY 2020-2025 Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP).  The Northern Virginia public meeting is set for 6:00 pm on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the VDOT Northern Virginia District Office, 4975 Alliance Drive in Fairfax.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board is seeking public comments as it develops the FY 2020-2025 Six-Year Improvement Program. The program allocates public funds to highway, road, bridge, rail, bicycle, pedestrian and public transportation projects. All federally eligible projects in the SYIP will be included in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program to document how Virginia will obligate its federal funds.

It is critical for cyclists to Speak Up in favor of bicycle and multi-modal transportation project. The program includes preliminary engineering or enhancements to Vienna Metro Bike Connection Improvement, Providence District BikeShare, Dulles Corridor Bicycle and Pedestrian Access, Wiehle Avenue and W&OD Trail Grade Separated Crossing, and other projects that you can find here.

If you can’t attend a meeting, you can submit comments via this online form until May 27, 2019

The meeting also is an opportunity to get your views out in from of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, and the Virginia Railway Express in addition to the Commonwealth Transportation Board.

Projects are prioritized and funded according to Virginia’s SMART SCALE process, which takes into account not only congestion mitigation, but also safety, economic development, accessibility, environmental quality, and, land use.
