Community Results for May 2019

The National Bike Challenge just completed its first month and FABB wants to again encourage everyone to join this great nationwide event. It will continue to run through September, so there is still plenty of time to participate. It’s a free and fun way to inspire yourself, your colleagues and your community to ride more while competing for various prizes and awards.

The challenge, which is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and Love to Ride, is a helpful gauge of the strength of bicycling in our area. Regardless of the number of miles ridden, the more riders who sign up and show that they love and care about bicycling, the easier our advocacy becomes. Your participation not only encourages you and your friends to experience more of the joy of bicycling, it helps support a healthier, more sustainable, and bike-friendly Fairfax County.

State (8-12 million residents) Results for May 2019

Since the challenge started in May, only 106 Fairfax County residents have registered. Despite all of the rain, they still managed to log more than 30,000 miles in just under 2,000 rides.  We are significantly behind last year’s pace but are still ranked fifth overall in communities with one million or more residents.  Among states with eight to twelve million residents, Virginia is in second place behind Georgia with Fairfax County riders making up roughly a quarter of all of the Commonwealth’s participants.

To match and then beat last year’s results, we need more riders to participate. If you have not already joined, please sign up here. Then, share this with all of your family members and friends who ride or who want to ride. Thanks!
