FABB strongly supports everyone getting outside and staying active, but we can’t stress enough that it is important to practice social distancing to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

We would like to suggest that all trail users—bikers, runners, walkers—use care and consideration by:

  • Avoiding major trails like the W&OD and Mt. Vernon when possible and instead using neighborhood streets where social distancing is easier.
  • Avoiding clustering in groups at intersections while waiting for a light. Remember that six feet of separation is recommended.
  • Scheduling any activity on the major trails for times other than periods of heavy use in the mornings and early evenings. Please keep in mind that some riders are essential workers making their way to work or coming home and less congestion helps them maintain social distance to stay healthy.

NOVA Parks announced that effective midnight on March 24, 2020, it will move to the Passive stage of its Pandemic Plan. All entrance gates and parking lots will be closed to vehicular access. The public may continue to use the trail systems, and NOVA Parks also encourages users to use proper social distancing.

Again, bikes are a safe way to travel and exercise while social distancing, but for many it is an essential need, so please be considerate.
