Here is some news that should be shared widely. Capital Bikeshare’s equity program is now available in Fairfax County. Called Capital Bikeshare for All, the program offers affordable, accessible, and fun transportation options to county residents over 18-years-old who qualify for a state or federal assistance program. These include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women Infants, and Children (WIC), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), SSI/SSDI Supplemental Security Income, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and Medicaid.

Program benefits include a low $5 annual membership for unlimited rides with the first 60 minutes of each trip included. Bikes are available 24/7/365 throughout service area and there is no extra usage fees for ebikes.

To participate, residents can register here by filling in the required information and uploading for program qualification a copy of one of the following forms: EBT Card, discounted utility bill dated in last 30 days, SSI/SSDI statement of benefits, or Medicaid Card.

Find a bike on the CaBi Bike Locator Map on CaBi website.

The program accepts credit, debit, or prepaid cards for payment. Prepaid cards are available at hundreds of retailers in the DC metropolitan area where members can purchase and load cash value to the card. No SSN, bank account, credit card, or identification required.

Once registered, program members only have to find a nearby available bike, unlock it using an app QR code, kiosk ride code, or bike key. Then they can take as many short trips as they want while the membership is active. When done, simply return the bike to any station, and wait for the green light on the dock to make sure it’s locked.
